TOBACCO PREVENTION SPECIALIST - JOB DESCRIPTION
Salary: $27.00 / hr. (plus PTO, holiday pay and benefits)
Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with occasional night and weekend hours.
Location: Martin County Human Services, 435 SE Flagler Avenue, Stuart, Florida 34994.
Position is hybrid/remote/office/field
Must be able to pass background, drug and tobacco testing
This position is drug-free and tobacco-free
(including electronic nicotine delivery devices) and a Level II background check will be required.
Position is contract through RGS working at Martin County Human Services
Position Summary
The Tobacco Prevention Specialist is responsible for implementing evidence-based
tobacco prevention initiatives that improve the health of Martin County residents. This
position coordinates community partnerships, youth engagement activities, coalition
development, public education campaigns, and policy initiatives in support of the
Tobacco Free Florida Program.
Working collaboratively with schools, healthcare providers, community organizations,
local government, and volunteers, the Tobacco Prevention Specialist helps reduce
tobacco and nicotine use through education, advocacy, and environmental change
strategies.
Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Coalition & Community Engagement
Coordinate and support the Tobacco Free Partnership.
Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and supporting materials.
Recruit and engage community partners.
Represent the Partnership at community meetings and events.
Develop relationships with schools, healthcare providers, businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations.
Youth Prevention
Develop and maintain Student Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) chapters.
Recruit youth and adult advisors.
Coordinate youth leadership training and tobacco-free events.
Support youth advocacy efforts at the local and state level.
Prevention Programming
Plan and implement evidence-based prevention initiatives.
Coordinate public education campaigns and community outreach.
Promote tobacco cessation resources and referrals.
Utilize social media and other communication platforms to increase community awareness.
Grant Administration
Assist with implementation of the Community Action Plan.
Track work plan progress and program outcomes.
Prepare reports and maintain required documentation.
Assist with data collection and evaluation activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of tobacco prevention, public health, coalition development, and community engagement.
Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
Experience planning community events and working with diverse populations.
Ability to manage multiple projects, analyze data, prepare reports, and meet deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in tobacco prevention, substance misuse prevention, or public health.
Experience coordinating community coalitions.
Experience working with youth leadership programs.
Experience with grant-funded initiatives and program reporting.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Human Services, Social Work, Education, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates, Licenses
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License. Must have valid auto insurance.
