SUMMARY:
Perform skilled work in support of the Wastewater Collections division. This class is responsible for service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, valves, fittings, and manholes; landscape, road, sidewalk, driveway restoration and other outdoor work, completing logs or routine records, operating light to medium mobile equipment, and minor equipment maintenance. The class works according to written and verbal procedures but decides how and when to do things under general supervision. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies.
This position may require you to have a take-home vehicle for purposes of responding to departmental emergency situations. An employee is covered under the County’s auto insurance policy when operating the vehicle in the scope of his or her employment. Employees are encouraged to purchase a rider of endorsement to their personal automobile policy to provide coverage for operating a County vehicle for personal use including driving to and from work.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES (Note: The listed duties are illustrative only and are not intended to describe each and every function, which may be performed in the job class. Inspect wastewater collection pipelines, manholes, and pump stations to identify potential issues such as blockages, leaks, or structural damage.
Perform routine and emergency repairs, including cleaning and flushing lines, to maintain efficient wastewater flow. Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment like vacuum trucks, CCTV inspection cameras, and rodding machines.
Transports, leads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects or at work sites. Perform general maintenance tasks which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Monitor inventory of division equipment and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials.
Follow safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees, the public and other individuals.
Prepare or complete various forms, reports, correspondence, service/work orders, time sheets, overtime logs, or other documents.
Maintain records of work orders and other documentation.
Communicate via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; records/replays messages; responds to requests for service or assistance.
Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, customers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Provide response to after-hours calls or to emergency situations.
Performs work related to this job description as required.

Knowledge of confined space entry, hazardous materials handling, and other safety practices.
Knowledge of wastewater collection and maintenance practices.
Knowledge of the effective operation of equipment as required for the position.
Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents.
Ability to work effectively without close supervision and to make decisions where applicable, pertaining to work problems.
Ability to provide information and answer customers’ questions in an effective and courteous manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess a High school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and one (1) year experience in the maintenance and repair of utilities infrastructure collection systems.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
Must possess Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification within twelve (12) months of appointment.

This position is included in the County’s Hearing Conservation Program due to routine exposure to high noise levels. Employees in this role are expected to wear hearing protection and participate in periodic hearing evaluations, in alignment with best practice guidelines based on OSHA recommendations.
