Position: Painter
Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Pay: $19.88/hr.
Location: Martin County General Services Department located @ 2555 SE Avenger Circle, Stuart, FL. 34996

Must be able to pass criminal background, drug testing and MVR check 

This will be a contract position with reSource Government Services and not a direct hire position with Martin County.


Summary:

Performs multi-painting work, which requires skills in painting, staining, refinishing, decorating and incidental duties on interior and exterior buildings, furniture and fixtures.  

This position will be subject to a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security clearance due to its access to the various criminal justice system operations. 

This position may require you to have a take-home vehicle for purposes of responding to departmental emergency situations. An employee is covered under the County’s auto insurance policy when operating the vehicle in the scope of his or her employment. Employees are encouraged to purchase a rider of endorsement to their personal automobile policy to provide coverage for operating a county vehicle for personal use including driving to and from work. 
 
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES

Inspects, cleans and prepares surfaces prior to painting and other finishes, including pressure washing. 

Responsible in selecting and mixing paints, proper placement of drop cloths, arranging and assembling scaffolding or ladders at work sites, cleaning and maintaining equipment. 

Responsible in  brushing, spraying, or rolling paint, varnish, stain, sealer, shellac or primer to work surfaces, building interiors and exteriors, furniture, bookcases, cabinets, counters and paneling. 

Responsible in the application of final finish to various surfaces including wood, drywall, stucco, metals, plastics, laminates, and related materials. 

Makes minor drywall/plaster repairs to walls and ceilings. 

Removes old paint or rust using lye bath, sanding machine , or other methods.  

Repaints or touches up signage. 

Replaces old signs with new ones. 

Uses power driven and hand-operated equipment and materials to apply finishes into surfaces, stencil, and pressure clean and prepare surfaces for final application. 

Cleans and maintains equipment, tools, supplies and assigned vehicle. 

Performs work related to this job description as required.

Skill in developing estimates of time, equipment and materials for painting projects. 

Ability to transport, carry, assemble and climb ladders and scaffolding.

Ability to plan and organize tasks/projects. 

Ability to adapt to various work environments. 

Skill in use of paint brushes, spray gun, high-pressure washers, and common hand tools.

Ability to measure and apply paint and markings correctly.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and two (2) years' experience painting building exteriors and interiors, furniture or equipment.  

Additional qualifying education, training and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. 
 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  

Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
